Returning to paper
ON THIS PAGE
Going live is a ceremony; coming back is a click. The revert-to-paper control lives on the environment card in Settings → Broker and is always allowed: no gate, no type-to-confirm, no questions. Reducing risk should never have friction.
What happens when you revert
- Your active environment flips to paper: every new order from that moment routes to the paper account
- The LIVE indicators (striped bar, outline, pulsing badge) drop back to the PAPER badge
- Live auto-execute switches off: automatic trading on your live account — including the hourly crypto safety check’s live protective sells — stops until you go live again and turn it back on from Settings → Strategies. Going live later never re-arms it silently
- The Orders, Positions, and dashboard cards switch to your paper account. They always show the active environment, so your live orders and positions stop appearing here once you flip (they still exist in your live Alpaca account)
- The change is recorded in your audit log every time you go live or revert, in the same append-only record you can never edit or delete
Going live again
Repeat the full ceremony: gate checks, typed confirmation, authenticator code. There’s no shortcut for re-entry, by design.
